    And The Winner Is...

I am ecstatic about the number of great films out in theaters at the moment, and that have been released so far this year. It isn't even mid-October and studios--Hollywood and independent--have released an impressive number of brilliant films. If it were the end of the year tomorrow, the Academy Awards would have more than enough choices for "Best Picture" consideration. Among them, in my opinion: Capote, A History of Violence, The Constant Gardener, Crash, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Proof, The 4o-Year-Old Virgin, Broken Flowers, and let's not forget about all the great documentaries released during the summer. There are two and a half months left to the year and I cannot imagine how great the films that are awaiting releases will be. There may not be enough room for only 5 nominations per category come Oscar time...

Have you heard about this movie that George Clooney has been working on? It's about Edward R. Murrow. I forget the title and I think it's in limited release now, do you know hhere around town it's playing or if it's going to go wide anytime soon??

Two other great films I failed to mention: The Upside of Anger, and The Squid and The Whale, which opens this Friday on limited release...

I haven't seen enough of those artsy-fartsy movies to really tell which ones are gonna get awards. Although Million Dollar Baby totally deserved all the credit it got.

By the way, way to not link to my blog, despite the "rv3--felotalk" link in Chico's Blog, Jabroni.

    poor netiquette= :(

You shouldn't hold it against him too much, rv3 is kind of technologically impaired, so I think he has to get Wendy to post all his links for him

I am technologically impaired, but the rest of functions quite well.
Hi Ariel... How's your van and how are comic books???
Chico Maiva: When Million dollar Baby opened it opened to a select "artsy" crowd before it opened nationwide. Ariel and Nick, don't be afraid of films not being shown at the local AMC movie house...

I'll have to keep that in mind, though truth be told, the only reason me and my friend Chance actually went and saw Million Dollar Baby is because we both love Clint Eastwood.

But overall, the entire cast was worth a million, no pun intended. Great movie, certainly deserving of every award and every bit of fanfare it received.

My boss told me last week that they are going to open one of those Newark theaters in Montclair. There is a whole hip college crowd market in this area, from Cal Poly to the Claremont colleges to the whole strip in Pomona which is full of art galleries and a new music scene to Brea that would benefit from non mainstream cinema and I think they are tapping into that market. Well that is not too far for me, certainly closer than Pasadena or West L.A. where these films first run.
