Tis the Season...
It is mid-December, and for the last week I have been juggling two jobs, family visits, holiday functions and Chrsitmas shopping. And I love it!!! I wish I could say I have been watching a lot of movies, but I have not found the time. The last film I saw was "Pride and Prejudice" two weeks ago, and I found it to be a wonderful, satisfying adaptation. If I find some time this weekend, I'd like to see "Brokeback Mountain" and "King Kong."
All three of my favorite reality shows have ended their Fall season, and I am happy that for once all of them had winners whom I was rooting for. On "Survivor" my three favorite players were in the top three, Rafe, Stephanie and Danni. I would've been happy for any one of them to have won, but Danni was the winner. "America's Next Top Model" had Nicole as its winner last week. And last night the Linz Family finshed first on "The Amazing Race." I am not lamenting that there isn't anything left for me to watch on t.v., since I do not have the time...
Thanks to Oprah and fashion magazines I have discovered my favorite drink for the season...Pomegranate Martinis! They are so easy to fix. All you need is good Vodka, like Absolut Citron, pomegranate juice, a splash of Cointreau, a splash of lemon juice, lots of ice (for shaking) and sparkling water. I won't give you exact messurements. I did not use any when preparing them for friends during a dinner party last Friday night. You just kind of feel it out...adding more vodka if too weak or more juice if too strong... I think everyone was pretty much pleased with their drinks.

Pomegranate is a good antioxidant, right?
I'm hooked on bloody maries (marys?). Mmm. Less calories than sweet drinks. And it's like a salad and cocktail in one drink. Nutrition and drunkiness!
Add olives, and I'm in heaven.
The pome martini sounds nice (the only problem with pomegranates is how long the name is- why so looooonnnnnggg?). I'll have to go with Kathy, though, in giving props to the Bloody Mary. K and I have a LOT OF experience with Bloody Marys, mostly religious in nature. My other favorite drink right is good bourbon on the rocks. My favs include: 1. Bulleit Bourbon 2. Knob Creek 3. Maker's Mark.
You guys are a bunch of alchis. The only thing I am addicted to is diet Coke, but only because I can't have the regular stuff daily. Rafi do you have time to watch anything other than reality shows? There's so much good stuff out there now like Commander in Chief and Boston Legal, just to name a few. Why does everybody want to see Backyarn Mountain so bad? Why don't they just rent a gay porn if they are that hard up to see two guys make out?
Hostile 17 (Ariel): Your comment on "BrokebackMountain" was borderline homophobic! For your information, the film is gathering the most amazing acclaim and is directed one the most highly-regarded directors in the world. Also, most cowboy movies & Westerns are about male-bonding, so this one is no different...almost, since this one does depict a deeper kind of bond between men.
In response to the drinks... I love, absolutely love, Bloody Marys!!! But to me, they are more of a "brunch" kind of drink... I lothat it is, as you said Kathy, a salad with Vodka...
I love anything with pomegranate juice, including the Margaritas... I remember when 10 years ago, you could only get pomegranate juice at farmers' markets... Now you can get them anywhere. I particularly fond of the one made by Naked Juice...
Aren't you glad I found the recipe for you?
As I see it, there are 5 main reasons to see Brokeback Mountain: 1) Almost every critic thinks its good, which is a safe bet that it is good. 2) In gay porn, you get to see any ol' gays go at it. In Broke Mt. you get to see two of Hollywoods hottest straight boys go at it. This is almost every gays wet dream: straight boys getting it on. It's kinda like how straight boys love it when two girls go at it. 3) The cinematography. 4) It's a Western of sorts, who doesn't like Westerns? 5) To support independent filmmaking. This movie was made for $13 million. Compare that to the budget of King Kong: $200 million.
I hope h17 gets some xmas spirit and stops his hating. For most of us, the cocktail spirits do the trick. Maybe H-17 should try rum and diet coke?
The gay sex content may be nice, but Brokeback seems too tragic a story. I get stressed watching tragic love stories with unfair and unjust outcomes.
You guys need to relax. RV3: You know I'm not homophobic. A lot of my friends are gay, my father's gay! (no not really, just channeling Costanza, in case any1 gets confused again) in fact, I was referring to the straight people who want to see the movie when I made that comment like the DJs on KROQ, it was a half hearted comment on people's obsession with sexual content, I don't really object to a love story between two guys, or two girls if the story is good. I just hate it when things are overhyped, but maybe that is the way marketing works in this country.
re: alcohol, I should have said, you guys all sound like alchis. I don't mind drinking in moderation and in a social basis. My favorite drink is rum and coke and I like Heineken beer.
dapototi: what makes you think all I do is sit in front of a computer all day? I do that, but half the time because I need to, since I work with them, and half the other time bc I enjoy them. I do have some friends though. And I haven't watched a buffy rerun since the show ended, it's just too sad for me right now.
I don't remember that from the Pet Shop Boys. If Brokeback Mountain starred the Pet Shop Boys I don't think people would rush out and see it. I was surprised recently when George Michael was interviewed and said Andrew Ridgley (among others) was pressuring him to be straight. ANDREW RIDGELY IS STRAIGHT????
Well, I'm glad we've cleared everything up... Happy holidays...
That explains why the Scorpions had so much play.
so r we getting together for new year's like we used to? I have no plan and wendy is going to some dance again this year I am sure, maybe we can go watch Brokeback Mountain. Just kidding
Dapatoti: Super!!! I think I will be fixing pome martinis on Christmas as well. Cheers!!!
Hey Rafi, how about a top 8 or 10 albums of the year to finish off 2005 in your blug? I'm counting down the best comics of 2005 so the least you could do is follow my lead!
