Batman Begins should've been at the top of your list, or near the top.

Munich was pretty okay. A bit slow in the middle, I think.

I didn't do that much movie watching in '05, however.

I only saw one film in your top 10. However, I want to see match point and "history of violence." Good to see that the top film is based on a comic book series.

Felo, great list. Makes me want to hurry up on mine. There are so many French films on your list. The French do make good films. What about your picks for performances??? I love that '40-y.o. Virgen' made your lise, as it will certainly make mine.

Chico: Batman Begins is definately high up there too. There were too many excellent films last year. My "runners-up" could've easily made it on to previous years' "top ten."

Dapototi: When one writes about a film's origin, the nationality of its director's must always be mentioned. The film and producers are indeed American, but the filmmamekr, as you know, is Taiwanese.

    Hostile 17: Hi!

new Agent #8: Favorite performances (big and small): Naomi Watts (King Kong), Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), Joan Allen (The Upside of Anger, Yes, and Off The Map), Catherine Keener (Capote, The 40 Year-Old Virgin), Philip Seymour Hoffmann (Capote), entire cast (Junebug), Maria Bello and Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence), Romain Duris (The Beat that My heart Skipped), Kiera Knightly, Donald Sutherland (Pride and Prejudice)...

Nice list. 2005 was my year for tv series on netflix (Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, Veronica Mars, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, The Office, and others). So I didn't see to many films.

I agree with Chico M. Batman was awesome. So emotionally driven and intense. Great performances. Beautiful cinematography.

I agree with Dapototi, Brokeback is an American film. The setting, characters, language, story, production, crew, crafts, etc. are all about the good ol' U.S. of A. (and Canada). Just give it up and stand corrected. But if you can't that's cool. You're a darling man, and you have your own precious understanding of binational identity.

I agree with H17. He needs to see History of Violence.

I also agree with NA #8. You do like the French cinema.

    Banned?
Why, because of the man love?
That's stupid; that's like bleeping out the word "fuck." We all know what he said, so what's the fucking point?

    Dapototi, You ARE intelligent!
China is also banning "Memoirs of a Geisha." But Taiwan is not doing this, China is...

"Top Ten" or "Twelve" lists are always tricky. You always end up changing your mind or forgetting something or someone. Having said that, I'd replace Sally Potter's "Yes with Lucrecia Martel's "The Holy Girl" for the #12 spot. And I should've included "Howl's Moving Castle," "Batman Begins," and the German-Turkish film "Head-On." in my runners-up/honorable mention list. Oh well...

Unlike most people, "Batman Begins" didn't impress me as much

I think Taiwan has its own language, but they do Mandarin as required by the Chinese government.

"There was a Batman movie..who cares?!!"

    SACRILEGE!!

You ought to be ashamed. Period. That is all.

Dapototi, Hong Kong has rejoined China and is no longer an independent state, actually it was never independent as it was part of the British commonwealth. Taiwan is actually simply an independent nation. Although you are correct in saying that they all speak they same language...

Meanwhile, what the heck was the topic? Ah yes, Rafi's Top 10 list. Every year I read it and every year I think, "Huh"? I don't watch movies too much and I guess that would mean I would especially never go out of my way to watch movies so that makes it very implausible that I'll watch most of these indie films. Oh well.

You liked Look at Me? Interesting. I would have thought you wouldn't like it. I liked it a lot also.

I've yet to see A History of Violence, but you are the third person who says is really good.

I loved the 40 Year Old Virgin, and I watched it because you said on an earlier blog that you liked it. See, you still influence my movie viewing.

    =)
